So hubby came over to civilization & got an unlocked iPhone since our contract had already begun in April & he had already gotten an android. The phone came yesterday & we hooked it up to iTunes to begin setting it up; turning on Vo & all that. We go to options & the "button" is not a button, it is a read-only edit box.We tried 2 different screen readers; Jaws & System Access. Then, upon restoring the iPhone, just to see if maybe in all our checkbox checking & such maybe we screwed something up, we're told that there is an error in the iPhone's software & that it cannot restore. I've never had any of these issues with my iPhone. Anyone had this happen?
I'd try two things:
1. try the restore again being sure your Internet connection is solid. I've never seen a software error issue but since it does need to download from the Internet I wonder if something got interupted?
2. If that doesn't work it's a call to apple.
Yeah retried the restore so, I think you're right about calling Apple. Thanks.
So, apparently since it's an unlocked iPhone, there's a good possibility that it was jail-broken. We're stuck returning it to Amazon & hopefully getting our money back. Then we can get one through AT&T. Apple does not support unlocked phones because the potential for viruses & malware increases & also something like what is happening with my husband's phone is very common as well. Just FYI.
Apple actually sells unlocked phones that are not jailbroken. The problem is you won't be able to make use of other carriers features due to diferences in freequency. I'm actually surprised that the jailbroken phone won't restore. Usually that works with no problem and of course the phone is locked again.
Oh goodness, I suspect I am too late and that you have already sent the phone back....
I had this problem last week. I actually put the phone in to recovery mode by holding the power key and the home key for eighteen seconds, then reconnected the phone to the computer, and was able to restore it that way without a problem. It just said that the phone was in recovery mode and that you would need to restore before you could use it, I pressed ok, and it worked fine. This was after trying to restore it three times previously and getting the same error result as you.
If you still have the phone, I hope this is useful, and if not, I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner so you could have tried it, because I feel sure it would have worked.
The phone is still here. We still want to return it because it is possibly a jail-broken phone therefore, susceptible to viruses & other malware. It's an unlocked phone from Amazon. Was yours unlocked r did you get it from a company like AT&T or Verizon?
